Turnabout is in PAIN

Turnabout will be releasing his long-awaited Pain album on Friday. He built this project on a New York pier, bringing his laptop and mic out in the middle of the night to work. And just like its recording process, the album carries that same sense of solitude and grit. We got an early listen, and I wanted to share my thoughts.

In these 15 tracks, and a nearly 45 minute run-time, Turnabout is able to communicate this sentiment very clearly: He is in pain but he also wants to kill you. This theme can be found throughout the project, alongside Instagram captionable lyrics that show he put thought and effort into his writing. 

He dips into a few sounds including emo rap, witch house, and even hip-hop. One such example was Witness which had a crazy, Three 6 Mafia reminiscent beat. Some of my favorites were the already released Prevail, as well as the outro track, Blood, where he gets real vulnerable and reminiscent. Also great were Raven, Red Creek, and Over, a collaboration with White Ring. 

Turnabout has definitely become his own artist and the sound has branched out. The experimentation on this album was very cool though he tells us he plans to move to purely witchhouse following this release.
